4 held with smuggled goods worth Tk 18 lakh in Kishoreganj

KISHOREGANJ, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - The naval police have arrested four people with various smuggled goods filled with bulkheads from the Meghna River in Bhairab of the district.

The arrested are Ismail Munshi, 37, , Rakib Mia, 37, his brother Sohag Mia, 35, and Nizam, 55, all are residents of Khalapara area under ??Aganagar union in Bhairab upazila.

“A bulkhead named 'M.B. Kadar Shipping' was seized during a raid in the Bhairab section of the Meghna River on Friday night. At that time, 60 sacks of fuchka (puffs) and 320 sheets of Gillette blades worth Taka 18 lakh 16 thousands were recovered from the bulkhead, “said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bhairab Naval Police Outpost Md. Jobair Hossain.

The bulkhead was heading towards Bhairab Bazar carrying Indian goods from the Badaghat border area of ??Sunamganj, evading revenue. 

On a tip-off, a team of patrolling naval police conducted the raid on the Meghna River and seized the goods including the bulkhead. The recovered goods are currently in the custody of the naval police outpost, he said.

A case was filed in this connection.
