KHULNA, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) - Police rescued an unconscious youth with his hands and legs tied from a char of the Shibsa River in Paikgacha upazila of Khulna in the early hours of today.

The victim was identified as Ripon Makhal, son of Mikhail Makhal of the Christian Para area under ward no. 7 of Paikgacha municipality.

Police said locals spotted the youth on the riverbank around 6 am. Upon receiving the information, police rescued him alive and sent him to Paikgacha Upazila Health Complex. His hands and legs were found tied with rope below the knees. At the time of rescue, he was wearing a T-shirt and jeans.

Ripon's father, Mikhail Makhal, alleged that the incident might be linked to a long-standing business dispute over a salon room near the Zero Point bus stand.

Duty doctor at the Upazila Health Complex, Dr Nirapad Sarkar, said Ripon is currently out of danger but remains unconscious and will need time to regain full awareness.

Sub-Inspector Riyad Mahmud, duty officer at Paikgacha Police Station, said no formal complaint has yet been filed by the family, but police have already begun an investigation into the incident.
