Three shops fined in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Nov 9, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Consumer Rights Protection conducted a raid at the old market, the main commercial hub of the district town, following a recent surge in onion prices. 

During the operation, three business establishments were fined Taka 12,000 for various violations of the Consumer Rights Protection Act.

The drive was led by Abdullah Al Imran, Assistant Director of the National Department of Consumer Rights Protection, Chandpur District Office, with assistance from members of the Ansar Bahini.

According to officials, Loknath Store was fined Taka 2,000 for failing to display a price list, while M/s Shuktara Traders was fined Taka 5,000 for the same offense. Additionally, Nahid Store was fined Taka 5,000 for selling baby food products without production and expiration dates.

The fined shop owners admitted their offences and pledged to comply with consumer rights regulations in the future.

During the operation, the team also inspected several onion warehouses amid rising market prices and checked pulses (dal) warehouses to ensure no artificial coloring was added to imported moong dal.

The raid was supported by District Agricultural Marketing Officer Md. Masud Rana, District Health Inspector Md. Nazrul Islam, and members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force.

Officials said that such monitoring and enforcement drives will continue in the public interest to ensure fair market practices and consumer safety.
