
RANGPUR, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate raids arrested four leaders of banned Awami League (AL), Swechchasebak League, Jubo League and Chhatra League in Rangpur in the last 24 hours till Tuesday night.
They are accused of attacks and attempted murder cases in the anti-discrimination student movement and July Uprising, as well as sabotage and anti-government activities.
The arrested persons are: Rangpur Metropolitan Ward No 15 Awami League Senior Joint General Secretary Raihan Ali Golap, 50, Metropolitan Swechchasebak League Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Mahmudul Hasan Shishir, 32, Mithapukur Upazila Kafrikhal Union Jubo League President Fuad Mondal, 37, and Metropolitan Chhatra League Vice President Manjurul Haque Manik, 28.
The arrests were confirmed by the Rangpur Metropolitan Police's media cell and Rangpur District Police on Tuesday night.
Tajhat Metropolitan Police arrested Rangpur Metropolitan Ward No 15 Awami League leader Raihan Ali Golap from Darshana Mour area of Rangpur city at around 8 pm on Tuesday.
Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police arrested Metropolitan Swechchasebak League Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Mahmudul Hasan Shishir from Gunjan Mour area of the city early Tuesday morning.
Mithapukur Thana Police arrested President of Kafrikhal Union Jubo League Fuad Mondal from the Boiragiganj area (Shah Amanat Oil Pump) of Mithapukur Upazila around 10 pm on Tuesday.
Earlier, on Monday afternoon, police arrested Rangpur Metropolitan Chhatra League Vice-president Manjurul Haque Manik, 28, from the city's Medical Mour area in Rangpur city.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali told local reporters that the arrested persons had been carrying out various activities to sabotage.
"Anyone who tries to conspire against the state or destabilise the situation in the country will be brought under the law," he said.
