CUMILLA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian smuggled goods worth around Taka 4 crore during a weeklong anti-smuggling operation along the Cumilla border.

The raids were conducted between November 5 to November 12 in several border areas, including Adarsha Sadar, Brahmanpara and Burichang upazilas of Cumilla district, as well as Akhaura and Kasba areas of Brahmanbaria district, a BGB press release said. 

The seized items include Indian sarees, three-pieces, shawls and chadors worth approximately Taka 3 crore, and various food products valued at around Taka one crore.

 Additionally, BGB confiscated cosmetics, fireworks, cattle, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, easy bikes, medicines, and narcotics such as alcohol, marijuana and syrup.

During the operation, several smuggling routes were identified, and multiple vehicles used for cross-border trafficking were impounded. 

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ziaur Rahman, commander of Sultanpur BGB-60 Battalion, said BGB officials said special surveillance has been intensified at key points in Brahmanpara and Burichang upazilas to prevent further smuggling attempts.

“As a vigilant guardian of the border, BGB has always worked as a symbol of national security and public trust,” said Lt. Col. Md. Ziaur Rahman.

 “We are continuing our operations to curb the infiltration of illegal goods and narcotics along the border.”

BGB sources also reported that smugglers have recently adopted new techniques to transport goods across the border. In response, the Sultanpur Battalion has strengthened its patrol and monitoring activities in vulnerable areas.

All seized goods have been handed over to the respective customs offices for further legal action, the BGB statement added.
