Youth fined for posting wild bird hunting video in Patuakhali

PATUAKHALI, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court in Kalapara upazila of the 
district has fined a youth Taka 10,000 for posting a video on Facebook 
showing the hunting and cooking of wild birds-- Dove and Shalik.

In default of payment, he will serve seven days of simple imprisonment.

The mobile court, led by Kalapara Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and 
Executive Magistrate Yasin Sadiq, handed down the fine on Wednesday 
afternoon.

The fined individual Bayezid Amin, 27, is the son of Md. Masum Billah of 
Amtalipara area in ward no-8 under Baliatali Union of the upazila.

According to the Forest Department, Bayezid recently hunted 20 protected wild 
birds, cooked them, and shared a video of the act on his Facebook account. 

After the video went viral on social media, the Kalapara Range Forest 
Department launched an investigation and took legal action under the Wildlife 
(Conservation and Protection) Act.

Following the investigation, forest officials filed a case and assisted the 
mobile court in imposing the fine. Members of the local animal welfare group 
'Animal Lovers Patuakhali' also supported the operation.

Forest officials stated that similar drives will continue to raise social 
awareness about wildlife conservation and ensure the strict enforcement of 
wildlife protection laws.
