CHATTOGRAM, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against three people, including former Bandar Thana election officer Muhammad Ashraful Alam, on charge of creating birth registration and National Identity Card (NID) using fake information.

Ashraful Alam is currently working as an additional election officer in Feni district. The other accused in the case are Abdul Jalil, son of the late Azizur Rahman of Jasim Colony, South Halishahar, in the city, and Pintu Kumar Dey, former birth registration assistant of Shulakbahar ward no-8 of Chattogram City Corporation.

Assistant Director Angti Chowdhury of ACC's Chattogram Divisional Office filed the case at the ACC's Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 today.

Deputy Director Subel Ahmed of ACC Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 confirmed the filing of case and stated that the accused collaborated to forge important state documents. The initial investigation has revealed the truth, and further investigation will be conducted to uncover any additional involvement.

The ACC's statement revealed that no official documents about Abdul Jalil's birth, citizenship, or parentage were located. He fabricated a birth certificate on July 22, 2011, without legitimate citizenship papers. Subsequently, in May 2017, the same certificate was renewed with a forged signature. The ACC accused Muhammad Ashraful Alam, the former election officer of Bandar Police Station, and Birth Registration Assistant Pintu Kumar Dey of aiding Abdul Jalil in creating and approving the fraudulent document.

Using the details from the counterfeit birth certificate, a national identity card was issued from the Election Commission office under a false identity and address. Notably, the sections for his parents' and wife's identities were left blank on the NID application form. Forensic analysis by the ACC confirmed that the signature on the birth certificate and the registrar's signature were falsified.
