Illegal nets, polythene worth Tk 94 Lakh seized in Mongla

BAGERHAT, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a large quantity of illegal fishing nets and polythene worth about Tk 94 lakh during a special operation conducted in Mongla this morning.

On information, a team from Coast Guard Base Mongla carried out the raid at around 8 am in the ferry ghat area near Mongla Police Station. During the operation, the team searched a suspicious truck and recovered 252,000 meters of illegal fishing nets, valued at approximately Tk 90,05,000, along with 900 kilograms of illegal polythene worth around Tk 3,60,000.

Coast Guard West Zone Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Md. Muntasir Ibne Mohsin confirmed the seizure to BSS on Saturday night. 

He said that legal proceedings regarding the confiscated items are underway. He also reaffirmed that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations to protect the environment and prevent illegal activities in the coastal region.
