RANGPUR, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court has fined a soil trader Tk 50,000 for cutting fertile topsoil from cropland for a brick kiln in Ghonapara field of Alampur union in Taraganj upazila.

Executive Magistrate and Taraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Monabbor Hossain led the operation on Saturday afternoon.

Sources said the court conducted the operation acting on allegations that fertile soil from agricultural land in Ghonapara had long been illegally removed and supplied to brick kilns.

During the drive, the court fined soil trader Sharif Uddin of nearby Doalipara village Tk 50,000. The equipment used for soil cutting and a trolley used for transport were seized.

The trolley driver and the landowner were warned, and bonds were taken.

The UNO told reporters that cutting soil from cropland is illegal and harms soil fertility, leading to crop loss.

"Such drives will continue to protect agricultural land," he added.
