
JASHORE, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with gold bars and ornaments worth Taka 93.59 lakh in Sadar upazila here early this morning.
The detainee was identified as Bikash Kumar Ghosh, 34, son of Bifal Chandra Ghosh, a resident of Mirpur Police Station in Kushtia district.
According to BGB sources, a total of 515.9 grams of gold-comprising three gold bars and four gold ornaments-were recovered from Bikash. The estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 93.59 lakh.
Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui, Commander of BGB-49 Battalion in Jashore, said that acting on confidential information, a BGB team conducted an operation and arrested Bikash from Daitala Bridge in Sadar upazila around 5.30 am on Sunday.
During initial interrogation, Bikash reportedly admitted that he was heading toward the Jashore border to collect gold from smugglers in Dhaka's Tantibazar area and smuggle it into India.
BGB has filed a case over the incident and handed the accused over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.
