THAKURGAON, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) – The district on Tuesday observed International Anti-Corruption Day with a series of programmes highlighting this year’s theme: “Unity of Youth Against Corruption, Building the Purity of Tomorrow.”

The observance began in the morning at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ishrat Farzana inaugurated the day’s events by releasing balloons.

The national flag and the anti-corruption flag were hoisted simultaneously as the national anthem was played.

Following the inauguration, the District Administration and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) jointly organized a human chain. A vibrant rally then moved through the main streets of the town before concluding at the DC Conference Hall, where a discussion meeting was held.

DC Ishrat Farzana, attending the programme as the chief guest, emphasized the critical role of the youth in shaping a corruption-free nation. The meeting was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nazmul Hoque Sumon.

Special guests included Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Belal Hossain, Additional SP Khodadad Hossain and Additional DC Sardar Mostofa Shaheen.

ACC Assistant Director Md. Imran Hossain delivered the welcome address.

Officials from various government departments, including LGED Executive Engineer Md. Mamun Biswas, BMDA Executive Engineer Shafiqul Islam, and ACC Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Jahangir Alam, were also present.

Speakers at the meeting underscored that to build a corruption-free Bangladesh, young people must be guided by the values of honesty and integrity. They said that active youth participation is essential for establishing good governance for future generations. The discussion further highlighted that corruption cannot be eradicated solely through punishment; rather sustained social awareness, strong moral values, and continuous civic consciousness are necessary to combat the issue effectively.

The day-long observance concluded with renewed commitments to raise awareness and inspire the younger generation to take a firm stance against corruption.
