
CHUADANGA, March 12, 2026 (BSS) - Five shopkeepers in the district town have
been fined a total of Taka 1,40,000 for selling banned cosmetics and spoiled
food items during a market monitoring drive conducted by the National
Consumer Rights Protection Department.
According to a press release from the district office of the Department of
Consumer Rights Protection, the drive was carried out on Thursday from 10:30
am to 2:00 pm in the Boro Bazar area of the town.
The operation focused on hotels, wholesale edible oil shops, cosmetics
stores, and spice traders as part of increased market supervision during the
holy month of Ramadan.
During the drive, Basu Sweets, owned by Kartik Chandra Bose, was fined Taka
20,000 for selling expired and undated yogurt along with spoiled sweets.
Under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009, several other
shops were also penalized for selling banned cosmetics. Palak Gift Corner,
owned by Tina Devi, was fined Taka 25,000 while Saudagar Gift Garden, owned
by Md. Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy, was also fined Taka 25,000, Ma Rokeya
Traders, owned by Delwar Hossain, was fined Taka 50,000 and Mamun Gift
Corner, owned by Mahfuza Khatun, was fined Taka 20,000.
Authorities also instructed the businesses to maintain proper purchase and
sales vouchers for quality products and strictly avoid selling expired or
substandard goods.
The drive was led by Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Mohammad Mamunul
Hasan. District Food Safety Officer Sajeeb Pal, CAB representative Rafiqul
Islam, and a team of police assisted in the operation.
