
NAOGAON, Mar 12, 2026 (BSS) - A preparatory meeting was held to observe the Atrai Genocide Day on March 25 and the Independence and National Day-26 on March 26 with due respect and solemnity.
The meeting was organized by the Atrai upazila administration at the Upazila Parishad conference room at 11:00 am today. Atrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Md. Alaul Islam presided over the meeting.
During the meeting, detailed programmes were adopted to mark the two important national days.
The programmes include firing of 31 gun salutes at sunrise to begin the observance, laying of wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, hoisting of the national flag at government and private buildings, a parade, discussion meetings and a prayer session.
In his speech, UNO Sheikh Md. Alaul Islam said that the Independence Day is the greatest achievement in the nation’s history. He emphasized that everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, should work together to uphold the dignity of the day.
He also highlighted the importance of presenting the true history of independence to the new generation. The administration has given special importance on security and overall preparations to ensure that the day is observed in a disciplined and festive environment.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Nure Alam Siddique, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Khairul Alam, Senior Vice President of Atrai Upazila BNP Md. Abdul Jalil Chocolate, General Secretary Md. Taslim Uddin and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station Md. Abdul Karim spoke at the meeting.
Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Mazharul Islam, Upazila Engineer Nishit Kumar, Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Maksudur Rahman, Social Services Officer Md. Sohel Rana, Disability Affairs Officer P.M. Kamruzzaman, Ansar VDP Officer Md. Jaglul Arefin, along with officials from various government departments was also present.
The speakers sought cooperation from people of all walks of life, alongside the administration, to ensure the successful observance of the upcoming national days.
