RAJSHAHI, May 24, 2026 (BSS) - Two alleged drug dealers, Mofez Ali and Laili Begum, were arrested along with a large quantity of cannabis in an operation conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control in Rajshahi.

Acting on a tip-off, a team carried out a raid on the house of Laili Begum at Shaluwa Union under Charghat Police Station in the district. During the search, officials recovered 75 kilograms of cannabis packed in 35 sacks from the premises.

Confirming the matter, Md. Ali Aslam Hossain, Additional Director of the Rajshahi Divisional office of the Department of Narcotics Control, said the suspects were part of a syndicate allegedly stockpiling drugs for sale ahead of Eid.

He said the operation was launched based on confidential information, leading to the arrest of the two individuals and the seizure of the drugs.

The official further noted that 516 anti-narcotics cases have been filed across the eight districts of the division this month, with more than 550 people arrested so far and significant quantities of drugs seized.

He added that cannabis, Phensedyl, Yaba, heroin and Tapentadol tablets are being smuggled into the country from India.
