
KHULNA, May 24, 2026 (BSS) – Donation cheques totaling Taka 36.4 crore were distributed among the cleanliness workers of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) today on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The cheque distribution ceremony was held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of KCC with KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju attending as the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, the administrator said the cleanliness workers are the “main driving force” of KCC and the corporation has been working amid many challenges to keep the city clean.
He said there is a plan to introduce road sweeping twice a day in the KCC areas in future.
To facilitate city dwellers during Eid-ul-Azha, 140 designated spots have been fixed across the city for animal sacrifices, he said, urging residents not to dump waste and blood into drains and to keep sacrificial waste at the specified places.
Manju also said the Eid holidays of all officials, employees and cleanliness workers of KCC have been cancelled during Eid-ul-Azha and efforts will be made to remove sacrificial waste between 2pm and 10 pm on the day of Eid.
He added that bleaching powder and sacks for waste disposal have already been supplied to different wards and sought cooperation from city residents to build a green and clean city.
Chief Executive Officer of KCC Rajib Ahmed presided over the programme, which was attended, among others, by Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam, Conservancy Officer Anisur Rahman, Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid and Market Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar.
At the function, the KCC administrator distributed cheques totaling Taka 36.4 lakh among 728 cleanliness workers from 31 wards of the city corporation at the rate of Taka 5,000 each.
