KYIV, Ukraine, May 24, 2026 (AFP) - Huge Russian overnight strikes on Kyiv hit a school and sparked a fire, the Ukrainian capital's mayor said on Sunday.

A "school has been hit... in Shevchenkivsky district," Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram, adding a fire had broken out. It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.

The attacks took place after Moscow threatened retaliation for Ukrainian strikes in the Russian-occupied east of the country that it said killed 18 people at a college dormitory.
