SANGSAD BHABAN, June 9, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today told the parliament that efforts are underway to strengthen the capital market through institutional and regulatory reforms aimed at mobilizing domestic capital and accelerating overall economic activity.

“All necessary reforms will be undertaken to promote the capital market and ensure that it contributes meaningfully to the country’s economic growth trajectory,” he said in response to a supplementary question from NCP lawmaker Atikur Rahman Mujahid (Kurigram-2) during the day’s question-answer session in the House.

Acknowledging that the country’s capital market is currently in a weak condition, Khosru noted that several financial products have not yet been fully developed to support its growth.

Referring to ongoing initiatives, the Minister mentioned that the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has been restructured with the inclusion of highly experienced and competent professionals to enhance its effectiveness and oversight capacity.

He expressed hope that the strengthened regulatory framework would help bring dynamism to the capital market in the coming days, enabling it to play a more effective role in channeling savings into productive investments.
