
DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced Md Mokbul Hossain to death for abducting and killing 10-year-old madrasa student Taohid Islam in South Keraniganj in 2024.
Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman delivered the judgment in presence of the convict and sent him back to jail with a conviction warrant.
The court also sentenced Mokbul to imprisonment until death and fined him Taka two lakh on the charge of abduction and demanding ransom, public prosecutor Ershad Alam George told BSS.
According to the case documents, Taohid was a student of the Najera Department of Rasulpur Jamia Islamia Madrasa and Orphanage in the Abdullahpur area of South Keraniganj. He went to the madrasa on February 10, 2024, and went missing on his way home after class.
Mokbul abducted the boy and demanded Taka three lakh in ransom from his family.
The family left the money at the designated place and time as instructed by the abductor. Despite receiving the ransom, Mokbul killed the boy and dumped the body in a septic tank of a house.
Later, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Mokbul and recovered the body.
Taohid’s mother, Tahlima Akter, filed the case on February 11, 2024. Police submitted the charge sheet against Mokbul on July 31. A total of 18 witnesses testified before the court during the trial.
