DHAKA, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said that he, like any other child, feels an intense desire to receive his mother's affectionate touch.

Amid the ongoing concern surrounding the severe illness of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman said this in a Facebook statement, seeking prayers for his mother's speedy recovery.

He said, "In such a moment of crisis, I, like any other child, yearn for my mother's affectionate touch. But unlike many, I do not have the freedom to make a unilateral decision or exercise full authority to fulfil this desire."

Tarique Rahman also said, "The scope for detailing this sensitive matter is also limited. Our family is hopeful that as soon as this political reality reaches the desired level, my long, anxious wait for returning to my homeland will come to an end," he said.

The BNP Acting Chairman said Begum Khaleda Zia is currently receiving intensive care in the hospital due to her serious illness. People from all walks of life, irrespective of political affiliation, continue to offer sincere prayers for her recovery.

He noted that Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has pledged to provide all possible assistance for Khaleda Zia's treatment and has conveyed his prayers for her wellbeing.

According to Tarique Rahman, medical teams from both home and abroad are providing the highest level of professional care, while several friendly nations have expressed readiness to offer advanced medical support.

"On behalf of the Zia family, I extend my heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to everyone for showing their sincere prayers and love for the universally respected Begum Khaleda Zia. I also sincerely request everyone to continue praying for her speedy recovery," he added.
