2-day Geoscience international conference begins at RU

RAJSHAHI, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - A two-day international conference on Geosciences for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (ICGSDG) began at Rajshahi University (RU).

The Geoscience Faculty of RU is hosting the event at its conference hall aimed at bringing together researchers, policymakers, and professionals to share knowledge and foster innovation in using geosciences to address global challenges.  

RU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Khan addressed the inaugural ceremony at Senate Bhaban as chief guest with Geoscience Faculty Dean Prof AHM Selim Reza in the chair.

Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences Prof Latifur Rahman and Prof Mijanur Rahman of the same department and Chairman of the Department of Geology and Mining Prof Younus Ahmed Khan also spoke.

Prof Farid Uddin said the conference provides a platform for geoscientists and other professionals to share the latest findings, methodologies, and trends in their fields.

It will foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to address challenges related to natural resources and the environment.

Besides, the event will explore and develop innovative solutions for resource development and environmental challenges, connecting geosciences to the achievement of the SDGs. 

Salient feature of the conference is presenting 216 papers in27 academic sessions. It will discuss how geosciences can help with the sustainable management of natural resources, including water and energy.

It will also investigate how geosciences contribute to combating climate change, geo-hazards, and environmental degradation.
 
Around 350 researchers, scientists, teachers and policymakers from home and abroad are taking part in the conference.
