
CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, June 9, 2026 (BSS) - Two new Pro-Vice Chancellors have been appointed at Chittagong University (CU).
Among them, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences has been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), while Prof. Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam of the Department of Political Science has been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin).
The information was disclosed through two separate notifications issued today, signed by Md. Sultan Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of the Public Universities Section under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
According to the notifications, with the approval of the Honorable President and Chancellor, Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin and Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam have been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellors (Academic and Admin) of the University of Chittagong under Section 14(1) of the Chittagong University Act, 1973.
Under the terms of appointment, they will serve for four years from the date of joining or until the date of retirement, whichever comes earlier. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position and will be entitled to other benefits in accordance with the applicable rules.
In addition, he will be required to reside on the university campus full-time and perform the powers and responsibilities assigned by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the university’s laws and statutes. The notifications further state that the President and Chancellor may revoke the appointments at any time if deemed necessary.
