
MYMENSINGH, May 24, 2026 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman today said National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a bright star in the literary sky whose works have earned global recognition as subjects of research.
He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the second day of a three-day programme marking Nazrul's birth anniversary at Trishal in Mymensingh.
The programme was organised by the district administration with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The minister said Nazrul was a poet of equality, rebellion, love and humanity who highlighted the struggles of the poor and oppressed and remained vocal against communalism.
"The people of Bangladesh love Nazrul deeply and will never forget him," he said, adding that the poet believed in the principle that humanity is above all.
He also said Nazrul remains relevant today in countering religious misuse and communalism.
Referring to Nazrul's early life, the minister said the poet was admitted to a school in Trishal in 1914 and showed strong performance in Persian language.
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Mymensingh-7 MP Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman, Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi and DIG Md Ataul Kibria were present as special guests, among others, on the occasion.
The session was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman.
