Ex-JUJA Secy Syed Abdal honoured for investigative journalism

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Nov 28, 2025 (BSS) - Former General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association (JUJA) Syed Abdal Ahmed has been honoured in the above-60 category for investigative journalism by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

JUJA President Mehedi Mamun and General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun congratulated him on the achievement. The honour bestowed upon such an experienced journalist would inspire media professionals in fulfilling their duties with integrity, said a congratulatory message signed by JUJA's Office and Publication Secretary Mah Alam on Friday.

This recognition adds a new dimension to his illustrious career and also carries significance for campus journalists across the country, it added.

Syed Abdal Ahmed is currently serving as the Executive Editor of the daily Amar Desh. He previously worked as Deputy Press Secretary to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia from 1992 to 1996. He served as JUJA General Secretary in 1984-85 and held several key posts at the National Press Club, including elected General Secretary for the 2011-12 and 2013-14 terms, contributing a total of 16 years to its management committee.

Earlier on November 28, he received a crest and a cheque of Tk 1 lakh from Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at the DRU awards ceremony. DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, General Secretary Mainul Ahsan Sohel, executive committee members, senior journalists and his spouse Begum Zinat Mahal Chowdhury were present at the event.
