KHULNA, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS) - Satyajit Biswas, 64, is not that person who believes in sitting idle after retirement, but has become a successful entrepreneur through farming dairy and cultivating agro products.

Throughout his long career in teaching, he dedicated himself to shaping students into responsible individuals while making significant contributions to the society, its education and culture.

Some people become teachers by profession while some others by heart. Satyajit Biswas, former assistant head teacher of Dhopadi Secondary School in Abhaynagar, is among the rare few whose life itself became a lesson in dedication.

In an extraordinary 31-year teaching career, he never took a single day of leave-- a record that speaks volumes about his commitment.

On October 9, 2021, he retired from his profession [teaching], but retirement could not pause his journey. Instead, it opened the door to a new chapter, driven by renewed determination.

Soon after the retirement, he embarked on a plan for financial self-reliance by starting a dairy farm.

Today, in his peaceful village of Kuchliya in Monirampur upazila in Jashore, he spends his retirement tending to his cows, working in the fields, and caring for his family.

Joining as a BSc Mathematics teacher on September 1, 1986, Satyajit quickly became a beloved figure.

Students fondly remember him as the "Computer Man of Mathematics" for his precision and passion in teaching.

Talking to BSS on Friday, Sattyajit Biswas said, "My students were like my own children. I couldn't spend a single day without seeing them. The school gave me everything -- my dignity, my livelihood, my entire world."

Despite retirement, he had once continued to teach students for free at home, but now, very few come. "I used to try to turn my students into good human beings. Now I try the same with my cows," he added with a smile.

He began his dairy farm by purchasing a Sindhi cow for Taka 80,000. The following year in 2022, he bought a Friesian cow for Taka 1, 27,000.

Gradually, milk production at his farm increased, and his honest dedication encouraged him to move forward with even greater confidence.

Satyajit Biswas said, "I have earned a profit of Taka 3 to 4 lakh annually by selling milk, ox from the dairy farm and Taka 3.5 to Taka 4 lakh from my agro products."

He, along with his wife and three to five employees, looks after the dairy and agro business.

Like Sattyajit, many retired teachers and other government-non government employees become self-reliant through dairy, poultry and agro farming.

Talking to BSS, Nazrul Islam and Sunil Roy, retired teachers of another government primary school of Abhynagar, also farming cattle, goat and duck and have become self-reliant.

"At least 15 to 20 youth are working their farms and running their family smoothly," they added.

During his teaching career, Satyajit Biswas earned numerous recognitions for his honesty, dedication and professionalism. His lifelong devotion to education earned him 14 prestigious honours, including recognition from the Ministry of Education, The Daily Star, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, the Anti-Corruption Committee, and various local authorities.

His list of accolades includes Taka 1 lakh awarded by the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taka 20,000 from the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE), Taka 1 lakh from The Daily Star, Taka 50,000 from a
distinguished individual and Taka 10,000 from the Education Secretary.

However, he did not use these financial rewards for personal comfort. He firmly believes that honour gains true value only when it contributes to positive change in one's life and in society.

For that reason, he invested the entire amount in expanding his dairy farm and establishing a fruit orchard.

His farsighted decisions have made him economically self-reliant and have gradually transformed him into a successful entrepreneur. From teacher to entrepreneur, Satyajit Biswas stands as an inspiring example.

He has shown that sincere initiative, hard work and unwavering determination can lead to success at any stage of life.

At home, he cares for his centenarian mother Tribeni Biswas and lives with his wife Arati Biswas. His son Abhijit has recently completed an MSc while his daughter Priyanka serves as a lecturer at Tularampur Agricultural College.

"People rarely check on me now. But I live with peace -- my memories from the classroom are my biggest treasure."

Satyajit Biswas may someday fade from this world, but his ideals, dedication, and love for his students will remain alive far beyond his lifetime.
