KHULNA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) – Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Mia Golam Porwar today said that the people of a changing Bangladesh now want a transformation in the system of governance.
“They want an end to bribery, corruption and misrule, and seek stability in the social, political, economic and cultural spheres,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with local dignitaries at the Damodar Union unit of wards 7 and 9 under Phultala upazila in Khulna.
Parwar, who is also a parliament member candidate for the Khulna-3 constituency, said that Jamaat-e-Islami aims to build a welfare-oriented and prosperous state where corruption and misgovernance will be totally stopped and stability will be ensured in all sectors.
Addressing the distinguished persons of the area, he said they should convey Jamaat’s call for a welfare state to the general public and urged them to vote for the party’s symbol — the ‘scales’, which he described as a symbol of justice and fairness.
Citing examples from different governments over the last five decades, he said that although 54 years have passed since independence, the people have not enjoyed its true essence.
“Governments changed repeatedly, but the fate of the people did not change,” he added.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami has taken a strong stance against corruption to bring real change in people’s lives.
Referring to the party’s welfare-state framework announced by Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Parwar said the outline includes strict control of corruption, establishment of justice and fairness, creation of new employment opportunities or unemployment allowance for educated youths, ensuring workplace safety for women, and building a sustainable, practical education system.
He said friendly relations with neighboring countries would be strengthened on the basis of fairness, and MPs and ministers would be held accountable so that they act as servants of the state instead of considering themselves its owners. “The people will be the true owners of the state,” he added.
He urged all to work in favor of the ‘scales’ symbol in the upcoming national election.
Presided over by Abdul Jalil Jamaddar, the meeting was also addressed by Khulna District Jamaat Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Prof. Mia Golam Kuddus, Principal Gawsul Azam Hadi and District Working Committee member Sheikh Sirajul Islam.
