CHATTOGRAM, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain today reiterated his firm stance on introducing a city government to carry out development work in the port city in a disciplined and coordinated manner.
“Formation of a city government is now considered as an unavoidable necessity to create an investment-friendly atmosphere and maintain law and order,” the Mayor said while exchanging views with a delegation from the US Embassy in Dhaka at his Tiger Pass Office this morning.
The US Embassy delegation included Political Economic Counselor Eric Geelan and Political Analyst Firoze Ahmed.
Responding to a query from the delegation, the Mayor said he has been sincerely working to maintain and improve the law and order situation in the city by coordinating with all relevant government agencies, including the Army and other security forces, since assuming office.
He said a major project has been undertaken to bring the entire city corporation area under proper surveillance through the installation of a CCTV network. Initially, the main streets of the city will be brought under CCTV surveillance, followed gradually by all small roads and by-lanes in the second phase.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain said initiatives have been taken to introduce health card for students, set up breast-feeding centers at important city intersections, smart card for low-income city dwellers to provide them facility to buy necessary commodities at cheaper prices and construct playgrounds for children in the city as part of his vision.
He informed the delegation that an elected government through a fair and credible election is pre-requisite at this moment to ensure overall stability and pace up the economic development as well as improve the law and order situation.
CCC Acting CEO Md Ashraful Amin, chief education officer Dr. Kisinger Chakma and chief revenue officer Sarowar Kamal were present at the meeting.
