Govt takes initiative to restore Rajshahi's glorious position in sports: Land Minister

RAJSHAHI, May 23, 2026 (BSS)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said children of the new generation must build themselves and develop their talents through sports so they can lead the country and the nation in future. 

He said sports make people disciplined and teach them to dream big even in adverse circumstances. 

The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the divisional-level Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament, held this afternoon at the Rajshahi Women's Sports Complex ground.

Minu said the government has taken various initiatives to further advance sports in Rajshahi.

In particular, the floodlights that were removed from the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium during the previous government will be reinstalled in the shortest possible time.

He expressed hope that international-standard football tournaments, as well as BPL matches or cricket matches with foreign Test teams, will be organized in Rajshahi very soon. 

The minister further said that to succeed in life, one must first set a goal and practice hard with self-confidence.

He mentioned that the talented young athletes here will bring renown at the national level in the future with BKSP (Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan) in Rajshahi.

He also assured that the government will continue to provide all kinds of financial and administrative support for organizing such major sporting events in the future.
 
The event was presided over by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid.

Special guests included Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, Additional Divisional Commissioner Rezaul Alam Sarkar, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Al Mamun, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Hasan. 

Senior officials from government and private offices, teachers and students, dignitaries, and journalists from print and electronic media were also present. 

At the end of the programme, the minister handed over prizes to the winners.
