Chattogram mayor promises comprehensive initiative for students

CHATTOGRAM, June 9, 2026 (BSS) – Mayor of Chattogram Dr Shahadat Hossain today promised a comprehensive initiative to develop infrastructures like playground in the port city for supporting the mental and physical health of students in the port city.

“A comprehensive programme is underway to develop playgrounds, parks and educational infrastructure to ensure a safe, healthy and sports-friendly environment for students,” he said at an annual award distribution, felicitation of meritorious students and farewell reception of 2026 HSC examinees.

He said the initiative included development of 41 playgrounds in 41 wards of the city while his office decided to take alternative playgrounds of schools having playgrounds of their own.

The event was organized at the Dewanhat City Corporation College Auditorium where Hossain initiatives were taken to ensure sports facilities particularly at the Dewanhat College by renovating a railway field.

“There is no alternative to sports to keep the young generation away from teenage gangs, drugs and terrorism,” the mayor said.

He said works are underway also to set up fields, parks, walkways and floodlights in different areas to ensure a healthy environment in the port city.

Hossain urged the students to play their due role to build a clean, green and healthy city and develop awareness against acts like throwing away plastic products, polythene bags or garbage in a chaotic or disorderly manner.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Chief Education Officer Dr Kissinger Chakma. Chattogram Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Inspector Professor Dr. Mohammad Sarwar  Alam, CCC Education Officer Nazma Binte Amin, former councilor Niaz Mohammad Khan and women activist Fatema Badsha also spoke at the function.

Principal of the college Kamrun Nahar Begum delivered the welcome speech at the function attended as well by teachers, guardians and members of the college governing body alongside students.
