3rd Grand Masters Chess Tournament inaugurated

DHAKA, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS)- The inaugural ceremony of the Leonine 3rd Grand Masters Chess Tournament, organized by the Leonine Chess Club and in collaboration with the Bangladesh Chess Federation, was held at the Red Tomato Restaurant at Ranks Nasim Square in the city's Dhanmondi today (Friday).

Prominent television personality, social worker and debater Dr Abdun Nur Tushar formally inaugurated the competition as the chief guest while Niaz Murshed the first Grand Master of the subcontinent, was present as special guest.

The opening ceremony preside by Leonine Chess Club's acting president Jebel Rahman Gani, Leonine Chess Club's general secretary Manjur Hossain Jimmu, International chess arbiter Md Harun ur Rashid and chief organizer Tasmin 
Sultana Labanya also spoke in the opening ceremony.

Following the inauguration ceremony a press conference was held to provide all the details of the meet. 
 
The organizers said the competition begins from tomorrow (Monday) with three grand masters, four international masters and three FIDE masters from Bangladesh, India, Uzbekistan and Vietnam will participating in the meet.

The competition will be held in a round-robin league format, with the winners will be awarded a total of US$1,000 in prizes, of which the champion will receive US$500, the runner-up will have US$ 3,00 and the third place finishers will get US$ 200 cash prize.
