Six-Nation Int'l Handball meet begins tomorrow

DHAKA, June 9, 2026 (BSS)-The age-group men's Int'l Handball Federation (IHF) 
Trophy begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Shaheed Captain M. Mansur Ali 
National Handball Stadium in the capital.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque is expected to open the 
meet as the chief guest at 11 am. 

Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam, Bangladesh Handball Federation 
president Major General Abu Mohammad Sarwar Farid, its general secretary 
Salauddin Ahmed and Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka Ice Cream Industries 
Limited Shah Masud Imam will also present in the opening ceremony.

The participating teams have already arrived in the city to take part in the 
tournament. Due to travel fatigue, most of the teams did not hold any 
training sessions. Only Afghanistan trained at the National Roller Skating 
Complex in Paltan, while the host nation Bangladesh held its practice session 
at the National Handball Stadium. 

The tournament will feature six nations, India, Nepal, Yemen, Maldives, 
Afghanistan, and host Bangladesh.

In the Under-20 category, the teams will be divided into two groups-
India, Nepal and Yemen grouped in A while Group B consist with Maldives, 
Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The champions and runners-up from each group will advance to the semifinals. 
The final will be held on June 14.

Matches in the Under-18 category will be played in a round-robin league 
format, with the team earning the most points crowned champion.
