GAIBANDHA, Nov 21, 2021 (BSS) - Some 51,000 affected farmers of the district will get seed and fertilizers free of cost from the government during the current Robi season under agri incentive and agri rehabilitation programmes.
The district was experienced by repeated floods a few months back of this year causing different types of crops on 68,000 hectares of land were damaged making the growers more worried about their food security.
To recoup the losses caused by floods the Ministry of Agriculture took the decision to provide seeds of different crops and chemical fertilizers- Di-ammonium Phosphate and Muriate of Potash (MoP) to the farmers under the programmes, sources said.
Accordingly, 24,000 farmers of all the seven upazilas in the district have been brought under agri incentive program and 27,000 under agri rehabilitation program.
Under the programmes, high-quality seeds of wheat, maize, mustard, ground nut, onion, mung bean, pulse, khesari, arohor, sunflower and soybean are being distributed to the selected farmers to farm the variety on one bigha of land during the current Robi season.
In addition, DAP and MoP as chemical fertilizers are also being distributed to the farmers to help them farm the varieties on their land successfully.
Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) AKM Ruhul Amin said the distribution activity of seeds and fertilizers is going on in full swing and it will be completed very soon.
Apart from it seeds of Boro Hybrid paddy would also be distributed to 35,000 farmers this month to farm the variety this Robi season, he said.
