BAGERHAT, Dec 8, 2025 (BSS) - A field day on the early-maturing Red Ruby tomato variety was held today at Raigram in Chitalmari upazila, organised by BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprises with active participation of local farmers.

Agronomist Md Mostafizur Rahman, Regional Sales Manager (Khulna), attended the event as the chief guest. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mostafizur Rahman highlighted the characteristics of the Red Ruby variety, including its early harvesting advantage, disease tolerance and favourable market price, which he said were contributing to its rising popularity.

Local farmer Prakash Roy said he earned about Tk 80,000 after spending Tk 25,000 on cultivation and expects to sell produce worth an additional Tk 70,000 to Tk 80,000. His success has encouraged other farmers in the area to adopt the variety.

The programme featured a field visit, crop inspection and interaction with participating farmers.

Organisers said the event helped enhance farmers' confidence in cultivating Red Ruby tomatoes and expressed hope that the variety would see wider adoption in Chitalmari, Bagerhat and neighbouring areas in the coming seasons.

Officials from different departments of the organization were also present at the event.
