DHAKA, Sept 10, 2024 (BSS) – Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today expressed optimism that the prices of electricity and energy would come down in future through increasing the production of renewable power on priority basis and ensuring efficiency in the field.
The adviser made the remarks when a delegation of the World Bank (WB) led by its acting country director Gayle Martin paid a call on him at his ministry’s conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat, said a press release.
During the meeting, the adviser discussed about getting the World Bank’s budget assistance for the Bangladesh power and energy sector.
Fouzul Kabir said that hundreds of unnecessary projects, including some costly ones, were taken during the previous government but returns from such projects were poor.
“Same situation had happened in the power and energy sector. Prices of power have been increased as the production costs went up due to those reasons,” he added.
WB acting country director Gayle Martin thanked the adviser and said that they are keen to work with the current government sincerely.
She said the WB has already discussed about the budget support issue with the Bangladesh Bank governor and the finance adviser.
Power division senior secretary Md Habibur Rahman, energy and mineral resources division secretary Md Nurul Alam, finance division secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumdar were, among others, present at the meeting.
