LONDON, Oct 22, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - UK public borrowing rose by a higher-than-expected figure in September, official data showed Tuesday, just days before the new Labour government presents its maiden budget.

Public sector borrowing stood at o16.6 billion ($21.5 billion) last month, or "o2.1 billion more than in September 2023 and the third highest September borrowing since monthly records began in January 1993," the Office for National Statistics said.
