Stocks extend losing streak

DHAKA, April 24, 2025 (BSS) - Stocks today extended its losing streak as the 
risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, plummeted by 49.9 points 
to settle at 4,973 points, as against 5,022 points in the previous trading 
session.

Market analysts observed that the relentless bearish spell remains dominant 
throughout the session in absence of any positive trigger to revive investor 
confidence in the distressed market.
 
Meanwhile, trading activities also remained stagnant with total turnover in 
DSE being low at Taka 3.7 billion. 
 
On the sectoral front, Food (22.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, 
followed by Fuel & Power (11.9%) and Bank (11.5%) sectors. Almost all the 
sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which lute (-3.9%), IT (-2.8%) and 
Paper (-2.7%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while only 
Fuel & Power (0.4%) exhibited marginal positive return. 
 
Out of the 397 issues traded, 50 advanced, 297 declined and 50 remained 
unchanged. 
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The Selective 
Categories Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 25.6 and 
54.4 points, respectively.
