DHAKA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - The government of Bangladesh and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Republic of Korea, today signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) & Terms of Reference (ToR) for the project titled "Education and Research Capacity Building of National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) in Bangladesh".
 
KOICA will provide an amount of US$5.9 million as grant to implement the project that will be implemented by the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery, under the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, said an ERD press release.

Mirana Mahrukh, additional secretary and wing chief (Asia, JEC and F&F), Economic Relations Division (ERD) on behalf of the government of Bangladesh and Jihoon Kim, country director of KOICA, jointly signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) & Terms of Reference (ToR) of the project on behalf of their respective sides.

The Project objectives are to establish a foundation for the development of high-quality nursing faculty through the operation of PhD and training in nursing programme at the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER). 

It is the first initiative in the history of Bangladesh for nurses to go for a PhD degree.
