DHAKA, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - A three-day training workshop titled "Basic Orientation of Securities Market Operations" was held for officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Training Academy.

The workshop, organised by the DSE Training Academy, was held from August 10 to 12, with officials at the level of assistant director/equivalent and personal officer/equivalent of the BSEC participating, said a press release today.

BSEC Additional Director Md Hossain Khan, DSE Chief Regulatory Officer (Acting) and General Manager Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, FCA, and Assistant General Manager Muhammad Ahsan Habib attended the inaugural session.

Speaking at the session, Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan said the BSEC initiative was a positive and fruitful step for the capital market.

"Through this training, exchange of professional experience between officials of the commission and the stock exchange will become easier," he said.

He stressed the need for effective coordination between the two institutions to ensure proper functioning of the capital market, compliance, corporate governance and protection of investors' interests.

He hoped the training would enhance the professional skills of the participants and enable them to play a more effective role in the development of the capital market.

BSEC Additional Director Md Hossain Khan said the capital market plays an important role in the country's economic development.

"Enhancing the knowledge, skills and professionalism of officials concerned is essential for an effective capital market," he said.

He said the training would provide participants with practical knowledge about capital market operations, trading and settlement, investor protection, surveillance and the use of technology.

He also expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen mutual understanding, cooperation and coordination between the BSEC and DSE.

During the workshop, participants were provided with basic and practical knowledge on various aspects of Bangladesh's capital market, including market structure, trading, surveillance, listing, corporate governance, monitoring, market operations, TREC affairs and ICT operations.

Officials concerned expressed hope that the training would not only enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants but also further strengthen mutual understanding, cooperation and coordination between the BSEC and DSE.

Speaking at the concluding session, DSE Chief Technology Officer Dr Asifur Rahman described the BSEC initiative as timely and commendable.

He said the programme created an opportunity for officials of the commission and the stock exchange to become acquainted with one another, exchange experiences and develop a better understanding of their respective activities and practical challenges.

He said both institutions share the common goal of building an effective, transparent and disciplined capital market.

"Therefore, coordination needs to be further strengthened through mutual exchange of knowledge and experience," he said.

Dr Asifur Rahman expressed hope that such initiatives would play an important role in building a more developed, efficient and trusted capital market in the future.
