Infusing dynamism into social services stressed

RAJSHAHI, Jan 3, 2024 (BSS) - Infusing dynamism into the social services can be the best way of welfare of the people with special needs and other underprivileged sections of the society.
 
   Emphasis should be given on ensuring transparency and accountability in all the welfare-oriented social service activities so that the target group of people could derive total benefits of the welfare programmes.

   Government officials and development activists came up with the observation while addressing a post-rally discussion on the issues related to social services on Tuesday.

   The Department of Social Services (DSS) and District administration jointly organised the discussion at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in observance of the National Social Service Day-2024.

   On the occasion, blankets, sewing machines and wheelchairs were distributed among the helpless and physically challenged people.

   This year's theme of the day is 'Bangladesh will build the country smart in social service'.

   Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed addressed the meeting as the chief guest with DSS Deputy Director Hasina Momtaz in the chair.

   Additional Deputy Commissioner Kolyan Chowdhury, Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Sayeed Muhammad Faruque, DSS Additional Director Debashish Sarker and Assistant Superintendent of Police ANM Niamat Ullah also spoke on the occasion.

   Deputy Commissioner said the government is implementing various social safety net programs for overall development of the public in general.

   The present government under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been providing financial assistance to cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke, paralyzed and congenital heart patients.

   Training, special allowances and education stipends are being provided to improve the living standards of Hijra, 'Bede' and marginalised people.'

   Toll free child helpline 1098 has been introduced to ensure child protection and their rights.

   DC Shamim Ahmed urged the officials and staff concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for successful implementation of the programmes taken by the government.

   Nearly 100 government and non-government officials and employees and volunteers joined the programme.
