Man to suffer life imprisonment on raping charge in Natore

RAJSHAHI, Jan 24, 2024 (BSS) - Judge of Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal in Natore has convicted a man and sentenced him to suffer life-term imprisonment on charge of raping a woman in the district around 14 years back.

The convict identified as Shree Dulal, 44, a resident of Chimnapur village under Bagatipara upazila has also been fined Taka 50,000.

Tribunal Judge Abdur Rahim found the convict guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict in a crowded courtroom today.

In another section of the case, the convict has been sentenced to 14 years jail and fined Taka 10,000, said Anisur Rahman, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal.
 
Another accused of the case identified as Nizam Uddin has been acquitted as the charge brought against him could not be proved beyond doubt.
 
Referring to the prosecution story, in brief, PP Anisur Rahman said the accused Dulal had kidnapped the woman from adjacent to her residence and took her to a nearby sugarcane field and violated her chastity forcibly in the night on July 23, 2010. Subsequently, he fled away.

After hearing the sound of crying the neighbors recovered the woman.

The woman by herself had lodged a case with Bagatipara Police Station on July 25 and police arrested Dulal.

Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges against two people, including Dulal, on October 30, 2011.

Before handing over the verdict, the tribunal examined recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence.
 
Special PP Anisur Rahman conducted the case on behalf of the state.
