Flood affected farmers get medicines for domestic animals in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July, 16, 2024 (BSS)-A number of flood affected farmers of Kamarjani union under Sadar upazila here received medicines for their domestic animals including poultry birds to save them from the diseases in post flood period.

Taking this in view, the Department of Livestock had taken pragmatic measures so that the animals and poultry birds as they could not be attacked with different diseases.

Accordingly, deworming tablets, vitamin tablets, appetizer tablets and saline were distributed to the farmers of the flood prone areas this morning free of cost.

In this regard, a function was also held on the premises of the union at the initiative of Sadar upazila livestock office at 11am.

Rangpur Divisional Director of the Livestock Department Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam addressed the function as chief guest and distributed medicines to 300 flood affected farmers.

District Livestock Officer (DLO) Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman spoke at the event as special guest while Upazila Livestock Officer Tarun Kumar Datta presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Director Dr. Nazrul Islam termed the domestic animals and poultry birds as the assets of the rural people and urged the farmers to rear the animals and birds like their own children to get economic profit against the cow rearing and poultry birds’ farming.

He also emphasized on taking special care of the animals and poultry birds through feeding them with medicines in a bid to save them from different diseases during the post flood period.

DLO Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman in his speech urged the farmers to communicate with the doctors of the veterinary hospitals here if they face any complexities regarding domestic animals and poultry birds.

Local UP Chairman Matiar Rahman, UP members, flood affected farmers attended the function.

Sources said, the Sadar upazila of the district experienced a prolonged flood this month. Almost all people of the union were affected by the flood. Like the people, the domestic animals and poultry birds were also affected by the flood.

The houses of the people in flood prone areas were stranded by flood water, as a result, the domestic animals and poultry birds owned by the people suffered a lot for want of fodder and safer places. Many animals had to pass days and nights in stagnant water during the flood. Subsequently, the animals and birds are likely to be attacked with different diseases during the post flood period.
