TANGAIL, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) - Driver and helper of a truck were killed as the truck collided head-on with a covered van at Kalihati upazila of the district this morning.

The dead truck driver, Anwarul Islam, 30, hailed from Maheshpur of Thakurgaon, while identity of the helper could not be known immediately.

Elenga Fire Service in-charge Ataur Rahman and Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahadat Hossain said that when the North Bengal-bound truck reached Shalla area around 5:30 in the morning, it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound covered van, leaving three people trapped in the vehicles.

Later, police and fire service personnel took them out of the vehicles. The truck driver and his helper died on the spot. The covered van driver was sent to Tangail General Hospital.

The bodies were handed over to their respective families.
