Special train for agro-products launched on Khulna-Dhaka route

KHULNA, Oct 22, 2024 (BSS) - With a view to reducing transport costs as well as pressure on the road, the West Zone of Bangladesh Railway today launched a 'special agro-products train' on the Khulna-Dhaka route.

Chief Commercial Manager of the West Zone of Bangladesh Railway Sujit Kumar Biswas inaugurated operation of the train this morning.

The train departed Khulna railway station at 10:15am and it was expected that the train would reach Dhaka at 10:45 pm with stoppages at 15 stations, including Jashore, Jhenidah, Kushtia and Ishwardi.

While inaugurating the operation of the train, Sujit Kumar Biswas said the government has taken initiatives to run the special train from the country's northern and southern regions to the capital for three days in a week to control skyrocketing prices of agro-products.

He said farmers and traders would be able to transport agro-products safely through refreezing bogies with low cost and less-time.

Consisting of seven luggage vans, the train will have the capacity of carrying 120 tonnes of agro-products, he said, adding that today's train left Khulna Station with 640 kilograms of agro-goods.

Apart from agro-products, the special train carries frozen fish, meat and milk, he said, adding that traders have to pay only Tk 1.47 for carrying a kilogram of goods from Khulna to Dhaka through the special train.

The special train will leave Khulna Railway Station for Dhaka's Komlapur Station on Tuesday, Freedom Fighter Sirajul Islam Station in Panchagarh on Thursday and Rahanpur Station on Saturday with agro and other products.
