Sylhet observing Int’l Leeds Pollution Prevention Week-2024

SYLHET, Oct 23, 2024 (BSS) – The International Leeds Pollution Prevention Week-2024 has started here in the district.

A rally was brought out to mark the week from October 20 to October 26, in support of the UNICEF, from the Civil Surgeon’s office here and it marched all through the city from Ambarkhana-Chouhatta.

The slogan of the week is “Shisha Dushon Bondho Hole, Barbe Shishu Budhhi Bole” (Children will grow with intelligence and strength if Leeds pollution stops).

Inaugurating the week-long programme, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad called upon all to work in public and private level to stop the pollution of Leeds.

“Leeds is a silent killer which affects the children’s physical and mental growth. One-third of the global children are affected by the Leeds pollution and Bangladesh stands fourth among the worst suffering countries,” he said.

High officials of the concerned offices and people from various strata of life took part in the rally.
