
GAIBANDHA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS)- As many as 2,700 goats and sheep owned by 240
families living in different char areas under Sundarganj, Fulchhari and Sadar
upazilas in the district were given PPR( Peste des Petis ruminants) vaccine
to protect the animals from the virus.
FRIENDSHIP, a Bangladesh-based social purpose international organisation
conducted the vaccination activity for the goats and sheep owned by the
beneficiaries of the organisation under its Assistance Sustainable
Development (ASD) Project funded by FRIENDSHIP Luexbourg.
Runa Khan, founder and executive director of the organisation, told BSS that
FRIENDSHIP is a non government, non profitable, nonpolitical and service
oriented organisation which has been working for the people of char and
coaster areas of the country since 2002 with a view to changing the socio-
economic condition for the people of the areas through involving themselves
in income generating activity (IGA).
Under this project, goats and sheep were distributed to the poor and
marginalized people of the project command areas here to help them
participate in the income generating activity. So that the beneficiary
families could change their fates economically, she added.
To protect the animals from the PPR virus an initiative was taken to conduct
PPR vaccine for the animals, she said, adding, "Accordingly, the vaccination
activity was conducted for the animals owned by the project beneficiaries."
Earlier, the beneficiaries were imparted need base training on goat and sheep
rearing on the open space of the char land smoothly, she concluded.
