
DINAJPUR, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Local Government Engineering Department
(LGED) has launched a major infrastructure development initiative in Dinajpur
Municipality, inaugurating the construction of new drains and sidewalks at an
estimated cost of Taka 12 crore.
The project is being implemented under the Resilient Urban and Territorial
Development Project with financing from the Government of Bangladesh and the
World Bank (WB).
The inauguration programme was held today at 4 pm. The work includes the
construction of a drain and sidewalk stretching from No-8 Rail Ghunti to
Maharaja School intersection, as well as from Matasagar Road to the Gabura
River within the municipality.
Dinajpur Municipality Administrator and Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of
the Local Government Department Md. Riaz Uddin, confirmed the development,
stating that the construction was formally inaugurated by Municipal Executive
Engineer Md. Minarul Islam Khan at a site adjacent to the Rajarampur Gabura
River.
Several officials and engineers from the municipality were present during the
event, including Assistant Engineers Md. Mizanur Rahman Siddiqui and Mir
Tofazzal Hossain, Deputy Assistant Engineers Md. Moyez Uddin and Md. Rimel
Ahmed, Assistant Municipal Engineer (Consultant) Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Site
Engineer Armanul Islam, Project Chief Engineer Md. Moniruzzaman and
contractor Abid Noman Hossain.
Officials expressed optimism that the new infrastructure will significantly
improve drainage and pedestrian facilities in Dinajpur town.
