RAJSHAHI, Dec 13, 2025 (BSS) - Rajshahi city, including all educational institutions, is set to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day tomorrow to pay homage to the great sons of the soil.

On December 14, 1971, many of the country's renowned academicians, doctors, engineers, journalists, artists, teachers and other eminent personalities were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators.

The district administration and Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes to pay rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals.

At 10 am, the district administration will place wreaths at the Shaheed Smrity Memorial Plaque, followed by a special discussion at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office to highlight the significance of the day.

The RU authorities will observe Martyred Intellectuals Day with elaborate programmes.

The day's programmes will begin with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop the university's academic buildings, administrative offices and residential dormitories at sunrise.

Top university officials will place floral wreaths at the university's Central Shaheed Minar and Martyred Intellectuals Monument at 7:15 am, followed by a one-minute silence in front of the monument.

RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saleh Hassan Naquib and Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Mayeen Uddin and Professor Farid Uddin Khan are expected to be present at the programmes.

RU Shahid Smriti Sangrahashala will remain open to visitors on the occasion.
