
RANGPUR, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The people of Rangpur today celebrated the Victory Day-2025 in a festive atmosphere paying rich tributes to the martyred of the Liberation War and July Uprising.
Hundreds of people attired with red-green colored dresses started rushing to the Central Shaheed Minar and placed wreaths there today from one-minute past midnight.
The divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), BNP, different political parties and dozens of other organisations celebrated the Day with colorful programmes.
With the sunrise, celebrations of the Victory Day began with 31-gun salutes at the Police Lines ground, placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings in the city.
Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam with high officials first placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar paying rich tribute to martyrs of the War of Liberation.
Later, the Rangpur Range DIG of Bangladesh Police Aminul Islam, RpMP Commissioner Mf Majid Ali, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hussaine, heads of different government departments and organisations and other officials placed wreaths there.
At 9 am, the Divisional Commissioner hoisted the national flag at Shaheed Abu Sayed Stadium, amidst the performance of the national anthem.
Afterwards, he, along with high-ranking officials, took the salute of a march-past and exhibition displayed with the participation of students from educational institutions at the same venue.
He inaugurated the three-day Victory Fair-2025 at the Rangpur Zilla School Ground at 12:30 pm.
The programmes also included hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and colored festoons, miniature posters and banners.
Special prayers were offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and July Uprising, progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.
Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, day-care and child centers, orphanages, Shishu Paribars and vagabond centers.
The District Information Office screened documentary films on the War of Liberation in cinema halls and at open places at convenient times.
Heroic freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters were accorded receptions in a function held at District Shilpokola Academy auditorium.
The Divisional Commissioner attended the reception ceremony as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner in the chair.
The DIG of Bangladesh Police Rangpur Range, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, RpCC administrator Md Ashraful Islam, Superintendent of Police, convener of the District Unit Command of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters' Association freedom fighter Md Ansar Ali and convener of the Rangpur Metropolitan Command Council freedom fighter Md Nur Mohammad, spoke as special guests.
After the reception ceremony, a three-day Victory Fair-2025 was inaugurated at the Zilla School Ground.
Organized jointly by the Rangpur district administration and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, the fair has 130 stalls. The fair will run from December 16 to December 18.
