
KHULNA, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - Highlighting the nutritional and economic benefits of mushroom consumption and cultivation, speakers at the closing and prize distribution ceremony said that mushrooms are rich in nutrients and can play a vital role in maintaining good health.
Speakers said that many people are already supporting their families through mushroom farming, and the fair is expected to encourage more individuals to take up cultivation.
The three-day regional mushroom fair, organized for the first time in Khulna division, under a project aimed at improving nutrition and reducing poverty through mushroom cultivation, concluded on Friday evening at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city.
They emphasized that mushroom farming requires minimal space and investment while offering significant returns, making it an attractive option for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The speakers also described mushroom cultivation as a promising sector for self-employment, particularly for women and unemployed youth, contributing to poverty alleviation and increased per capita income.
Among others, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayeed Md. MonjurAlam addressed as chief guest and Regional Seed Certification Officer Bibhas Chandra Saha spoke as special guest.
The Department of Agricultural Extension Khulna region’s Additional Director Agriculturist Md. Rafiqul Islam presided over the event, while Deputy Director Agriculturist Md. Nazrul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
President of District Krisak Dal MollaKabirHossain, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of PhultalaUpazila Salma Sultana, and mushroom entrepreneurs Md. Azizul Islam and Ripon Kumar Roy also spoke on the occasion.
At the end of the occasion, certificates were distributed among representatives of 22 stalls participating from different districts of Khulna.
Prizes along with certificates were also awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
