KHULNA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today urged transport workers to take advantage of free eye examination and eyeglass distribution services being provided by voluntary organisation Vision Spring.

"Vision is one of the greatest blessings in human life. Unfortunately, many people around us are losing their eyesight simply due to lack of proper treatment. Many cannot afford to visit doctors because of financial constraints. Vision Spring has come forward to stand beside such people," he said.

The KCC administrator was addressing a programme organised at Sonadanga Bus Terminal this morning, where free eye examinations and eyeglasses were provided to transport workers.

The programme was arranged by Vision Spring with the support of Khulna District Bus and Minibus Owners Association and Khulna District Motor Workers Union.

Manju thanked the organisers for undertaking the initiative, saying the programme would greatly benefit transport workers.

He also requested the organisation to assist in conducting eye examinations for drivers employed by the Khulna City Corporation.

According to Vision Spring officials, the organisation has set a target of providing eye examinations to 50,000 transport workers across the country by December this year. So far, nearly 12,000 transport workers have undergone
eye check-ups, and around 80 percent of them were found to require eyeglasses.

The organisation also informed that it is operating similar programmes in India and several African countries.

Presided over by General Secretary of the Khulna District Bus and Minibus Owners Association Md Robiul Karim, the programme was addressed, among others, by Executive President of the association Md Saiful Islam, Joint General Secretary Yasin Molla, social workers Sheikh Asaduzzaman Murad and Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Moni, and Vision Spring Assistant Manager Tachmiya
Aksi. Senior Manager of Vision Spring Umme Sauda delivered the welcome address.

Later, Manju, also Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Khulna City Unit, distributed umbrellas, hand fans and purified drinking water among rickshaw pullers, hawkers and destitute people at Dakbangla intersection in the city.

The relief items were distributed under an initiative of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Khulna City Unit.
