RANGPUR, July 29, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don has announced a 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption and irregularities in road construction and renovation works in the city.

"We have taken a strict stance against irregularities and corruption in all types of infrastructure development work to develop Rangpur as a modern, clean and orderly city," he said while inaugurating several road construction and renovation projects in the city on Wednesday.

The projects include about six kilometres of road construction and renovation in the Mahiganj and Central Bus Terminal areas and a one-kilometre reinforced cement concrete (RCC) road to Chikley Park.

Under the Government Development Assistance Fund project, 1,377 metres of road from Mahiganj Shaheed Minar to Gosaibari will be constructed at a cost of Tk 95.27 lakh, while a 1,340-metre road from Mahiganj Shaheed Minar to Dewantuli via Pirgachha will cost Tk 96.38 lakh.

A 4,100-metre section from Central Bus Terminal to Barabari Road is being renovated at a cost of Tk 8.68 crore, while a 1,020-metre RCC road to Chikley Park is being constructed at a cost of Tk 3.58 crore.

Speaking at the events, the RpCC administrator said the city would be developed in a planned manner as an eco-friendly, modern, liveable and traffic-congestion-free city.

He said he had prioritised the renovation of dilapidated and major roads since taking office to ease the suffering of city residents and make travel safer and more comfortable.

He also said the long-awaited modernisation of the road from Jahaj Company intersection to Mahiganj Satmatha intersection has already begun.

RpCC Superintendent Engineer Md Azam Ali, Executive Engineer Md Shamsuzzaman, Rangpur Metropolitan Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal Member-Secretary Atiqul Islam Lenin, Senior Joint Convener Jahir Alam Nayan, contractor Khairul Kabir Rana, RpCC officials and leaders and activists of BNP-affiliated organisations attended the events.
